4.1. Methodological overview
The methodology followed in this course is oriented towards the achievement of the learning objectives. A wide range of teaching and learning tasks are implemented, such as lectures, practice sessions, autonomous work, study and assessment tasks.
Students are expected to participate actively in class throughout the semester.
Further information regarding the course will be provided on the first day of class.
4.2. Learning tasks
The course includes the following learning tasks:
- Translation and commentary of a selection of epigraphic and literary texts of Archaic time.
- Translation and commentary of a selection of epigraphic and literary texts from the Vulgar Latin.
- Translation and commentary from other Latin texts of interest for the study of the history of the Latin language.
4.3. Syllabus
The course will address the following topics:
- Topic 1. Diachronic, diafasic, diastratic and diatopical description of the Latin language: different approaches and methods.
- Topic 2. Latin as Indo-European language.
- Topic 3. General characteristics of the Archaic Latin.
- Topic 4. The configuration of Latin as a literary language.
- Topic 5. General characteristics of the Vulgar Latin.
